We recently developed and deployed the website for the delicious Union Café in Schenectady New York. We also have helped the Café to otherwise enhance its online presence.
Up until our involvement, the Union Café did not have a website. They had a Facebook page, but a Facebook page is somewhat limiting in that you are confined to the Facebook format. Nothing online offers the flexibility of your own website. Union Café also had created a number of listings on online directories, such as Yelp and UrbanSpoon, that are of relevance to restaurants and other destinations.
We used a premium theme from Elegant Themes geared towards restaurants. The theme enables Union Café to put front and center its menu, location and hours, and customer reviews. The theme is not indigenously responsive, meaning that it does not naturally respond to screens of different sizes, such as smart phones and tablets. So we installed a plug-in, a piece of software adding additional functionality to this WordPress website, that makes viewing the site on smaller screens more pleasurable to the visitor. No pinching and zooming necessary.
Because it is a WordPress theme, the website easily can grow over time. We have installed other plug-ins to ensure fast loading, security, site backup, search engine optimization, and other attributes that aim to make this site enjoyable for visitors and search engines alike.
We also made sure to integrate the restaurant’s social media assets, including Facebook, with the website. In addition we claimed, created, or modified additional online assets. This included, importantly, a Google Plus business page, which is tightly integrated with other Google properties. But also, we made sure that the restaurant had claimed its stake, and provided relevant information, at such sites as Yelp, Foursquare, TripAdvisor, Yahoo Local, Bing Business, and the like. Search engines pay attention to whether businesses claim their listings on such sites. It is an indication that the business is for real when it disseminates information about the enterprise throughout the World Wide Web.
