We just completed a revamp of a WordPress.com site for the 4th Annual Distribution Forum, an energy industry event in Toronto.

We typically recommend self-hosted WordPress sites (using the open source software at wordpress.org) over WordPress.com sites, as the latter can be relatively limiting (no plugins allowed!) absent the purchase of significant upgrades. We think WordPress.com is great if you’re just getting started with a website or blog, or if you need to get something up quick.

We updated the theme (with one available at WordPress.com), updated content, and created some forms (as available at WordPress.com).

While we were pleased with the WordPress.com result, our recommendation to our client is to move the site next year to a self-hosted WordPress site, owing to the flexibility and affordability of same.

You can visit the site at distributionforum.com.
