We recently learned of and are now big believers in a terrific free website and service called Help a Reporter Out (HARO) (Twitter: @helpareporter).

HARO permits direct contact to reporters looking for specific information for articles they are writing. On any given day there might be reporters looking for information on just about any topic under the sun.

Once you sign up on the website, you will start receiving daily emails describing journalists’ needs. Check to see if they are writing about issues you know about or are thoughtfully or knowledgeably able to comment on. If there are, contact the reporter with your information.

There is no guarantee that your information will be used. But if it is, you obtain free positive publicity, and possibly a link to your website, which most businesses and entrepreneurs desire (and if they don’t desire that, they need to rethink their marketing and branding efforts!). Additionally, even if your information is not used, if you appear credible, original or both, the reporter has your information and may follow up directly on another article they are writing down the road.

We hope you found this of use. If so, please give us some +1 love!
