We recently redid the website for Schenectady-based ECOS: The Environmental Clearinghouse, New York Capital Region’s leading environmental non-profit. ECOS is indeed a clearinghouse; it provides the public with useful, actionable environmental information.

The former ECOS website was an HTML affair that seemed a bit dated and needed some organizational and navigational improvements. We designed a brand new site using the Divi theme from Elegant Themes. Divi is essentially a building platform that sits nicely on top of WordPress. It’s very flexible as a design tool.

We deployed search engine optimization (SEO) best practices, both from a technology and a content perspective, on the site to get more people to find the site online. If you’re going to have a website, you want people to find it, yes?

As more and more people abandon laptops and desktops for internet browsing in favor of smartphones and tablets, having a mobile-ready site is terribly important. The theme is natively responsive, so it responds to screens of all sizes or is “mobile-ready”.

We helped ECOS to create at PayPal and install on the site a storefront for both publication sales as well as easy member registration.

We put into place security and performance software to keep out the bad guys out and to permit faster browsing for the good folks.

ECOS has GoatCloud manage and monitor the site. We are always vigilant of site health and security, which you should be, too, with respect to your own site. We use the free Google Webmaster Tools for this purpose. Like most of our clients, ECOS would rather spend time running the business rather than running its website and online presence(yet knows that just like the former, the latter cannot be ignored). Though we help on the technical side. WordPress permits ECOS to update site content handily. If you can handle word processing software, you can handle WordPress. We’ll be providing training to the ECOS team.

We love the new site for ECOS and hope you do, too. Go join the organization or buy one of their publications today!
